Description

The word flamingo comes from the Latin word for flame. Egyptians revered the flamingo as the living embodiment of the sun god Ra. Romans considered flamingo tongue to be a delicacy!! They can live up to 20 years in the wild and 50 years in captivity. They can reach up to five feet in height. They weigh about 6-7 pounds. They have a wingspan of between 55 to 65 inches. Males are generally larger than the females. An adult flamingo's legs are longer than its body. There are several species of flamingos: Greater, Lesser, Caribbean, Andean, Chilean, and James'. Lesser flamingos are the smallest of all of the species of flamingos. The Lesser flamingo is the most numerous of all of the species. James' flamingos were once feared to be extinct, but were rediscovered in 1957. James' flamingos only exist in very small numbers in limited areas of South America.

Fantastic composition and pose and the presentation is very well done. It must be one of the most pleasantly coloured birds on earth. I am suprised it only weighs 6-7 pounds, it looks much heavier when taking to the wing.

Bravo! Love the soft colors of this one - the one I have lined up to post is more unicolor red. - So I guess, one like more, what's new to him! And this one is new (at least for me). Especially beautiful are the fine details and color nuances, that mine practically does not show. Beautiful pose and composition.
