Sorry about the title: couldn't think of another way to honour Jinet on his outstanding 'Masque'-series (a.k.a. Carnaval Vénitien). Jérôme: thanks for these absolutely wonderful posts in the past, no words to tell you how much I like them. I hope there are lots to come!
About the picture: this is from the so called 'Cult & Tumult'-festival in my hometown Veldhoven, The Netherlands. The word 'tumult' stands for something like pandaemonium or turmoil, and I guess I don't have to explain 'cult'.
This is an annual festival (10th edition this year) for all sorts of art (music, dance, poetry, (street)theatre...whatever one likes). It lasts for a complete weekend (friday-evening until sunday-evening)and all performances are completely FREE. That's because we're Dutch and don't want to pay for art (or whatever). I know our fame in some countries of the world...LOL. This year we had 70.000 visitors, which means that it is starting to attract bigger 'acts' each year. For example: this year we had the band Within Temptation, which is a European top-act in the Gothic/Rock-scene. I guess this was the 'tumult'-part this year...LOL.
The picture shows one of the members of Teatro Pavana, a professional group of stiltwalkers that rose from Venice's channels in 1993. Their offices are located in both Venice and Amsterdam. This international group of artists mixes a diversity of theatrical expressions into one audience experience. Stiltwalkers, acrobats, musicians, and dancers play with mystical masks and beautiful costumes inspired by the Carnival of Venice and the Commedia dell'arte. Because of its range of different walk acts, the group can perform in many different locations, both indoors as well as outdoors.
