As I said earlier; you have a good eye for detail, a suggestion I thought of about your lighting comment would be this: some day when you have a few hours to spare, open one of your completed Bryce scenes, go into sky lab, turn on shadowing, play with moving sun position around, observing the shadowing effects. Bryce follows real world laws of Physics, especially those applicable to photography. All default settings in sky lab are adjustable. Turning on soft shadowing, really jacks up render times btw, turning down intensity helps.
