I've have received a number of requests about how to configure lighting and atmosphere combinations in Vue to achieve decent looking character renders. So I put together 6 scene files to help take some of the mystery out of the never-ending struggle to find the right lighting/atmoshpere combinations. The 6 scene file (which will be available for free on C3D) utilize very high, overly-driven, ambiance - (new on Vue 6) in combination with inifinite directional lights and light gels to produce very soft shadows and near photo-real results. The over-driven ambiance eliminates the over-saturated, dark shadows that are often caused when using global lighting. The neat thing about these scene files, is that you don't have to screw around with the lights since they are all infinite or indirect. You just load your character, put it anywhere you want in the scene and render.

Fantastic and you are a wealth of knowledge and information about the poser vue connection. I am interested in exactly what you mean by "over driven" ambience? Can't wait to work with your concepts here. Thank you.

Thank you so much. I really have trouble rendering characters in Vue. It seems to take forever to get the lighting right and it still doesn't look that great. This is a real valuable gift. I truly appreciate it. cheerio lululee

"Over-driven Ambiance" is the ability to push the scene ambience beyond the baseline of the light produced by the sky. In Vue 5, you could only set the Artifical Ambience slider to a maximum of 1.0. In Vue 6, you can push the value up to 10, thereby "Over-Driving" the so called natural scene ambient light. What this does is to lighten and de-saturate shadows caused by indirect light. In other words, you can get rid of those often ugly dark, harsh shadows caused by indirect lighting. In order for this to work properly however, you need to balance the effect with diffuse light sources. Otherwise, the image will look cartoonish.

This sounds fantastic, Dave! Atmospheres were always a problem for me in Vue 5. This diffused lighting looks really nice.

Shadows look fabulous, Dave.

This is so cool, I'm really into character renders in Vue. I only wish Vue 6 Esprit would allow me to push beyond 1.0 on the artificial ambience slider. Great work Dave

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L image. 5+. Happy new year my dear friend. E-onsoftware's Vue is it. My favorite.
