Description
This is the first rocket launch from Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island Virginia, on December 16, 2006 as seen from Fairmont, West Virginia (about 250 miles away). My wife and I had to get up early to see it, but it was well worth it. This picture (which does not do it justice) was taken a few seconds after the launch when the razor-straight contrail had started to dissipate. Staging was spectacular: The missile tipped away from as and we saw a wide circle billow out from a small point of light. I wonder what people on the Interstates were thinking.
