BACK AND BACK AGAIN! ...TO THE '30!
Flash Gordon is a 1936 film serial which tells the story of three people from Earth who travel to the planet Mongo to fight the evil Emperor Ming the Merciless. It stars Buster Crabbe, Jean Rogers, Charles Middleton, Priscilla Lawson, Frank Shannon and Richard Alexander. It was the first of three serials based on the comic Flash Gordon. Thirteen episodes were filmed and released.
The Flash Gordon serial was the most expensive of them all, the only serial advertised in some theaters above the name of the feature presentations, and probably the serial with the greatest attendance. It was the only sound serial with sexual tension. And it has become the best-remembered serial of them all.
During the 1950s, the three serials were shown on television. To avoid confusion with a made-for-TV Flash Gordon series airing around the same time, they were retitled, becoming respectively Space Soldiers, Space Soldiers' Trip to Mars, and Space Soldiers Conquer the Universe.
Portraited here are the Dr. Zarkov terrestrial rocketship (basic mesh by Geodesic, modifications and textures by me), chased by the Emperor Ming the Merciless spaceships (mesh by Geodesic, and textures by me). In the background one of planet Mongo Cloud City (mesh by me).

One advantage FLASH GORDON had-- a science fiction musical named JUST IMAGINE had been proiduced a year earlier. The spaceship and futuristic props built for the movie were then stored away until the FG production team found them and gave them lasting popularity.

Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers b&w serials I grew up with... Later I sought the same escapism with comix, especially Jack Kirby's and Stan Lee's Fantastic Four... Excellent tribute to this timeless classic...

I made something like that myself. The spaceship I made in 3ds Max. I was going more for the old serial reruns on T.V. But your cleaner more updated Flash Gordon is a nice touch. Very good scene.
