Description

A song dances all along the beach and the sea... It's a Dutch song of many years ago, maybe immediately after WW2 or even earlier. A simple but good text by Michel van der Plas. Also the melody, by Jan Corduwener, is a simple one, but very attractive and it remains in your head, singing around. My translation is bad, it misses the alliteration of the Dutch and also the dactylus of the original is lacking. The verb 'deinen' is something else than 'to dance', it's a kind of easy swing in the same way as the orange 'ribbon' in this image does, going up and down. For all of you, able to read Dutch, the original text: "Een dansliedje deint langs het strand van de zee En al die 't hoort, die neuriet 't voort Het danst op de golven, de wind neemt 't mee Tot ver waar nog badgasten dromen 't Zweeft naar de maan en niemand weet Waar 't vandaan is gekomen Een dansliedje deint langs 't strand van de zee En ieder die neuriet het mee."
