Description
Taken from almost the same location as yesterdays post(worth a look).
Now as for my title, the person named was an artist whose work is often used nowadays on xmas cards, think Snow and Sheep and its likely one of his. I like his work but critics at the time called him Frozen Mutton Farquharson. He found a theme and did many variations as long as it included cold weather and sheep ! And to me it was no great surprise to discover he painted in North East Scotland. Not all his work included the sunset,in a local big estate house I have seen a huge canvas around fifteen foot across with almost life size sheep, and more shades of grey than I knew could be mixed. The feeling of being caught in a blizzard was well conveyed and perhaps that is why the owner consigned the art to hang in a draughty corridor.
Oh and I just discovered that he painted actually in blizzards from the comfort of his mobile painting hut with a stove inside, and even had plaster sheep made to model for him in bad weather.
Heres a link to one of his works which I am sure you have seen on a card,
