Description

Had a little run-in with some non-Native American folks a couple of days ago whom I caught cutting trees on our property. Not that I begrudged them the tree if they had been stand-up about it and come to the house and asked for one...would have been glad to point out the ones they could choose from. But no...they just pulled up in a Lexus SUV, got out a saw, and started cutting. And they didn't understand what they had done wrong! I just don't get that, quite honestly. We give away holiday trees to those who can't afford them because we believe that we (humans) are born in service to Deity and each other and it's the right thing to do. And then after the theft of the tree to not understand that they can't just drive out from the city and do what they want on what is called "indian land," lands that belong to tribal members, that form of racism just astounds me. So, here's my answer. Hope someone learns something out of all this...I doubt the folks I threw off the property did.

I have a few friends in the miccosukee village thats a few hours away from where I live. and they had something simular happen to them not too long ago. The people were not even from florida they were tourist. It does upset me that people just do not understand that tribal property is tribal property. But it has been happening through out all of history and truth is it will be happening for a long time. Its a great render by the way

I can so relate to this! I think it is sad, but a part of life. Unavoidable in some instances. I admire your stand in that and I positively love this render! Great job!

As a white woman of a native american husband I too would be truly angered if this should have happened to me. But wheher it is "indian land" or your own property, any one who would begrudge "common courtesy over anything on any property is trespassing. I agree with what you did as I would have done the same! I just love this render all in all Beautiful!

Theft is theft. Would they go to a state park and cut down a tree? (Then again, if they didn't see the problem, maybe they would.)It's not theirs, so they have no right. I'd be screaming furious if someone was on my land cutting down trees without asking first.
