Description

He stood in the graveyard, Arms folded, head bowed. In his eyes the tears glistened, For the girl young and proud. She had promised him always, Her heart and her soul. To keep that sweet love, Had been his one goal. Now, he was a vampire, And to keep her forever, Meant a sharp kiss to her throat, So that death would could never. But the mark she then bore, Brought forth hate from the village. Whilst he hunted one night, They attacked her so savage. When he returned it was over, And cursing their cruelty, He held her cold body, A shell now so empty. The futility burned, Of the deed they had done. A stake they had driven in, Then afraid, they had run. He only killed animals, She had done the same. No harm to a human, Could be linked to their name. But the scared ask no questions. The fearful are quick to decide. Now he had lost the gentle love, He once searched for far and wide. He heard the foe returning, So with one last embrace, Away he went and left her, His route of escape to trace. They took body to the graveyard, Which held a fresh dug grave. They placed her in the cold earth, Her mortal soul to save. Their belief was, he would stay away. That their God for him held fear. But he simply was not evil, Though that they would never want to hear. So although the stream of life flowed on, He never forgot her name. And he went to the grave on moonlit nights, To mourn the soul they could not tame.

A beautiful poem that tugs at the heart strings. This is a masterful use of words.
