Description
This is the war memorial tower in the park in the middle of our town centre. You can climb to the top by means of a spiral staicase inside. The tower contains bells upon which melodies can be played by means of a keyboard like an old fashioned organ. This is the Carillon and the man who is especially trained to play this rare instrument is called the Carilloneur.
Loughborough is well known for a few things, its university, the Carillon,Taylor's Bell Foundry (there are only two bell foundries remaining in England the other being The Whitechapel Bell Company, London.Taylors cast bells that are played in towers and churches all over the world)
Also it is famous for it's industry eg Brush Engineering, Astra Zenica pharmaceuticals to name but two.
New year is a time for looking forward and also for remembering the past, both good and bad so we dont make the same mistakes(hopefully)
I wish all on here a very happy 2007.
