The first ray-traced image by Turner Whitted in 1980 used spheres on a checkerboard. His spheres were very plain though. Yours kicks it up a notch, a huge notch. Fantastic demonstration of textures and bump-mapping. One of the best examples of the infamous "sphere on checkerboard" theme I have seen.

I don't know much about this area of Renderosity... I'm usually just dealing with the photographic areas. But this is freaking mind blowing. W O W ! ! ! ! I could stare at this thing for hours. (No... I don't do drugs either.)
