Description

The Northwestern side of Mt.Shasta..taken from a rest stop on Highway 97 coming south from Oregon..on a good day it can be seen from 100 miles away from certain points...is 14,162 feet above sea level..has a 17 mile diameter and 5 glaciers..the most recent eruption was in 1786...all this info was taken from an information plaque at the stop...quite an impressive sight...

And let's not forget that it is still considered an "active" volcano although no real activity has been recorded in some time. This and Mt. Lassen were both visible from the property I owned near Red Bluff and on a clear day I was awesome to look out and see both incredible volcanoes towering in the distance. Great photo of this magnificent mountain.

Nice shot! I used to live near Mt. Lassen and got up there, but never got to Shasta. Happy New Years and a wonderful 2007 to you and yours!

stunning vista and reminds me of the the peak at Flagstaff Arizona. it can be seen all the way over to Winslow or Holbrook. the very first time I went to CA. I thought we would never reach Flagstaff
