Description
This is an old fashioned fireplace. It is to be found in a house at the Black Country Museum, near Dudley.
You can see the edge of an old fashioned rug made out of cut up old clothes. The strips'hooked' through a piece of hessian sack material using a modified wooden clothes peg. They were known as 'clipping' or 'hookey' rugs. I remember my gran making them when I was small.
This fireplace is much older and smaller than the one my gran had. Gran's even had an oven and she baked lovely bread and a delicious meat and potato pie in it. Also it was great making toast using a toasting fork in front of the fire's bars when the fire burned down to red embers. Toast made by a toaster doesn't taste anywhere near as good.

I would love to see it a tad sharper because I am very interested in the old stoves. Great mood and it looks very cozy.
