Description

Well, I guess being offline was a blessing in disguise (for me) but it drove me nuttier than a already was, LOL! This is a composite of 3 photos taken minutes if not moments apart. I had taken them a few months ago and hadn't really looked at them until bordom (from lack of internet) prompted me to go through old photos. Sooo... from left to right, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Downey Woodpecker and Pileated Woodpecker! (not seen very much around here) I hope you all enjoy and Merry Christmes, Happy New Year and anything else I've missed ...(and believe me I've missed being able to view all the galleries and visit the forums!)

Pileateds are rare to see...for a second I thought you had struck GOLD, getting all these birds in ONE shot!!! Nice composition.

Great shot. At first, from the thumbnail, I thought you put a "Santa's" hat on the bird. Now I know it isn't.... Happy New Year. May this year be even better than the last one. Welcome back on line. Aloha

Ditto what Terry said! I have had 3 types on one tree before but never captured (Downey, Red-Bellied, and Red-Crowned - one that has more red than the Downey but not Red-Headed). Pileateds come through my woods often...had the greatest good fortune to see 4 pairs in what seemed like an actual flock one fine spring long ago (generally they are solitary). Great composite...lots of head-turning on this one! =)

This compo is believable. Had you not said I would have been so jealous. Not sure you would see it in nature all three together, but wow minutes apart is good enough. We have a lot of these birds around, but they move so fast. Nice to see one in the open.

Even more creative than using a threesome in a collage and very well captured!

Cool photo- I need to be so lucky as to photograph the pileated...I chased a pair outside my home last fall but never got a shot of them. Great work

Quite nicely put together! I was quite surprised to see the Redbellied, Downy and Pileated together! This would be a dream come true. I almost had a chance with a Redbellied and a Downy the other day..but it did not happen. We do have Pileated. Around here this is an uncommon bird but more common in a particular part of the woods. One tore jack out of an old pine stump in the back behind the house. He did fine work! As have you..but yours is creative and not looking for bugs.
