I came across this old promo B5 render for my Nuts & Bolts freebie, and I thought it might be a good candidate for IBL. The original had reflection on the ground, and a cube behind, and an interesting sky for the reflections. I tried a couple of probe images, but the original was still more interesting. Then I tried this one. I had the cube hidden, to use the IBL image as a background. It was nice, but because of the focal length I was using, the background was slightly distorted. So I decided to turn the reflector back on and group and rotate the entire scene to change the lighting 180 degrees, and get the background reflected in the cube. I left the original mat on the ground, but added the reflection image to the bump channel. I grabbed another metal mat I had made, and put it on the cube. I didn't realize it, but this metal had the same image driving the reflection and transparency channels. I can't remember why I made such a mat, but it sure does interesting things here. How much of what you see is showing through the transparency, and how much is reflected, is anybody's guess. It ends up looking like an extremely distressed metal, or a space background. All I know is it makes my eyes hurt ;)
