I was just thinking about how route 66 went against the grain. In Oklahoma it was the big undulations of crossing high ridges of hills and in California it was dry wash after dry wash. Not one water course or game trail was followed. The railroad would have used trestles but the highway just used a crosscut. What grade do I get for remembering this?
