Description
A little history...
In 1994 Apple Computer introduced the then new PowerPC computers by comparing how it made a graphic object in the Mathematica program, to a Sun SPARC workstation. The Apple "smoked" the Sun. This is the same object that was made in Mathematica during the speed comparison, but rendered in Bryce using textures.
In honor of the just released iPhone, we have a journey back in time to a major announcement from 1994, the PowerPC, and the object used in its introduction.
PS, Steve Jobs came up with the name for the Mathematica program when talking with Steve Wolfram, Mathematica's maker, and Jobs included it on his former Next Cube computer. So jobs had an affinity for Mathematica, hence his using it in introducing the Apple PowerPC machines in 1994.
