Well a fun little project. This really is only part of it. I made this car for the Wings challenge over at CG talk. I took the concept of a classic 50's car made for offroad. Jacked it up a bit and gave it a blower and sidepipes.
One thing that took soem extra time is rolling your own shaders. Made a plastic and a cloth and a chrome and a brushed metal shader for it. Fun learnign how to work with shaders in Messiah.
Modeled in Wings 3D rendered in Messiah with HDRI and GI.

You've run down a lot of the total. Now how about the headlights. I'm a bug about headlights. The chrome is still an issue and you've go that one down pat. DAZ chrome, Poser chrome, now WINGS chrome as folks deal with what is imaging reflection and what is simply brightness. With headlights you need a transparent reflection. The paint has to deal with broad expanse of boring flatness in an interesting and reveealing way as well as openning up to the sky. I'd say you noticed all those things and made them work for you.
