Description

The Lightning interceptor served Britain for over 20 years being replaced by the Tornado. Small numbers were used in Saudi and Kuwait. It could become supersonic in level flight, the two engines were unusually mounted one on top of the other with the pilot sat on top of the jet intake area.Once mastered it was a powerful mount. This particular example was crashed off Scarborough seafront 1983 when the pilot F/L Thompson did some low level aerobatics. Four Lightnings have been restored to fly at Thunder City airport,South Africa, where you can book a flight.http://www.thundercity.com/
