Description

This is at another part of the river from my last pic 'meandering along' at Warburton on the way up to Mount Donna Buang. I was captivated by the different pathways on land and water that presented itself here. I did darken the pic a little in PSP7 to enhance the shadows as suggested by dBgrafix in the last pic and I am pleased at the results, thanks it did bring out the depth of colour nicely. I would like some more critiques please as these ones that I have the 'critical comments prefered' tags are contenders for a camera club competition later this year and I would prefer to either fix this one or concentrate on another pic. The comp judging is anon and there are experienced photographers as well as snappers like myself. Any suggestions on clarity, exposure, balance and other technical areas are most welcome along side general feedback. I am also unsure as to whether the picture has a good balance with all the green at one side and water down the bottom. What is your thoughts here??? Enjoy the solitude with my compliments. Have a great day. Jenny

Its a shame that the view (photo) had not been rotated about 30 degree along the Z. The feeder stream that is causing the distrubance in the water would have added to the theme. Perhaps in your modeling, filling in that gap wont be a problem. I think this scene will make a great looking model, I would love to see it when you are done.

Sometimes there is just not a lot you can do. Depending on the time of day or conditions, some shots come out flat. I think moody or stunning landscapes are taken early or late in the day when the lighting is unusual, with the contrast very evident. Here the lighting seems very soft and diffused, ideal for portraits, not so good for landscapes. A good experiment would be to go back to someplace like this at different times and study how the scene changes.

It is a scene with a lot of potential and you will have to experiment with different angles: take the stream facing you, etc. This one looks very good but I agree with Newbie and I'd go for either less soft light or sharpen the photo during postwork, play with the contrast too and up it a bit. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks for all the help, i am putting up a few scenes to get an idea of where to improve my work and to put into our camera club competitions (they run all year). Knowing what makes up a technically good pic is very handy as I can then decide which ones would stand a better chance of a good review and it gives me more ideas to work with for later.
