Description

This will not be seen for another 5,000 years...so don't blink or you will miss it ! I was very lucky to witness this phenomena, because the last couple of nights it has been too cloudy to see it at all, tonight was the last opportunity to see it with the naked eye. This shot was taken by me in the Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales, Australia. This is a bit grainy, as I used the 25x digital zoom. ( approx. 7:30 pm EST) This Comet will gradually burn up as it approaches the Sun, the long tail is mostly ice particles. Cheers jif3d :o)

How cool to see it so clearly. I've never seen one, and Haley's was a huge disappointment. So you're lucky indeed, and now so are we! Thanks, Jeff!

Oh, great! Thanks for posting that. When I was out in DC, in 96/97, I drove out of town to see the comet Hyakutake that was visiting our neighborhood back then. Very cool.

I saw this a couple of nights ago as we have had cloud every night for ages so thought we were going to miss out but there it was and it was quite spectacular as when I saw it it wasn't even properly dark and it stood out. I was going to wait for dark but it was already after 10pm so bed was calling. Since then it has been cloudy again so we were lucky. Much brighter than Halley's comet.
