I have always liked 'llIustration' and tend to produce it either as Cover Art or Sequential imagery. The former is probably the more challenging because of the balance that needs to be struck between form and content, decoration and narrative. Cover Art, like the short story, gets a limited shot at indicating what lies beneath the cover. My current preoccupation has been described, and I think aptly, as 'nostalgic sci fi and pulp'. And someone also suggested that it might be a little too late to revive the 'adventure genre'.
Stylistically, I'm keen on the commercial illustration of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publication (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics). There is so much creativity and artistic competence to found on the covers and within the pages of even the most mundane examples.
It is over the last 7 years that I have started to use, and like, digital media. My working methods are still a little too intuitive and involve the usual squinting and standing back that one associates with traditional media, but I am enjoying making imagery more than ever and would now like to explore the possibilities of illustrating written stories (preferably by working with an author).
Interests: Commercial illustration and sequential imagery of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publications (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics).

Nicely done ...

Ok, the only thing bad I can say is that you're using a Marvel book for a DC charecter and if you look close you can see Captain America, but other than those small details on a scale from 1 through 5 (Rendo rating system) I give this a 5.5

'cruzin'! Never one for 'slavish' acccuracy thought Batgirl might like to meet the 'Cap'!

Style takes you back... awakens old memories! But I think they would have made her a better looker.

Excellent image Mike, I love the distress and choice of colour. Just a small point, the title covers the 'Approved' logo top right. Sorry just me being a designer!!!

Before I start, I do want to say that Im one of your biggest fans I always keep my eyes open for new postings from you. However, this, for me, is one of those very rare times that I think you missed the mark. It just isnt up to your usual high standards. The pose is awkward and the hang of the cape is anti-dramatic it just seems to suck the drama out of the scene. This is exacerbated by the dullness of the background (which, on a positive note, I must point out that it does offer nice contrast against her dark costume). I suspect the lighting is also making her look a bit flat (her breasts are overly pointy and if not for the golden bat, we would lose them entirely in her monotone costume). Also, there is something wrong with her right ankle; it looks like theres an odd ridge around it, as though there is a problem with a pants/boot morph). And, of course, the Captain America corner element is detracting, as is the careless placement of the Batgirl name over the Comics Code Authority stamp. On the plus side, I do get the sense that this was just a quick study in form, so Im not worried that youre losing your touch (as is shown in your next posting). Thanks again for sharing.

Yeah, the comment just above this one may have merit if you were reproducing a photo. But as an old comic strip artist, myself, I see the illustration effort you employed here. I like this very much and you did an excellent job!
