Description

Even through all the freezing temps and snow and wind storms, nature has a way of coming through unscathed!!!!! This is in my front yard looking so beautiful... enjoy please... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scientific name: Salix Discolor Pussywillows are native to the United States... Pussywillows are a member of the willow family. They thrive in wet soil and in soil with lots of clay and/or poor drainage (we have a high water table, being on the edge of the flood plain, and lots of clay). They are nonetheless drought resistant and hardy to zone 2. The catkins appear in mid-to-late February, an early sign of spring, and provide early season food for migrating songbirds as well as resident birds and small mammals. Wildlife Value: provides food for birds early in the spring, when little else is blooming or presenting seeds; also eaten by rabbits, fox, squirrels, and deer.

Oh...are they not wonderful??I remember, and that is one of very few memories from childhood, that I made beds for these, played that they were small animals, and used empty match boxes and cotton to make the small beds .-)

I would have to agree with the others... the texture is marvellous, and this picture is a fine capture indeed.... So soft and gentle to the eye. The blurred background is very complimentary to the entire energy of this photograph and places the focus on this beautiful and natural image. It reminds me of a song that I learned oh sooo long ago.... " I know a little pussy, her coat is silver gray....... for she's a pussy willow... now whatda think of that...meow, meow, meow....SCAT!" :) Thank you for sharing this with us, Akemi!!!
