GDay Aldo R Perez Your image caught my attention as I am very aware of difficulty of during this subject matter justice. I perceived several problems technically with your image. Called my wife and asked her opinion. She more or less echoed my own thoughs. As an invitation to dialog I uploaded one of my own images of a similar subject matter. Check 2D - Religious/Spiritual under artist Hexagon. Feel free to critique my image as hard as you wish. If you wish to hear my crits of yours write me an email through site. Bob

This is a nice piece of work - the materials are particularly good esp on the oil lamp, the candlestick and the vase. The flames are very well integrated with the scene. Is the book meant to be marble or old paper?

On the Bible I wanted to get an old paper feel, like an old manuscript, but I must admit it could have been much better. I must have created over 30 textures for the Bible and tried over 200 different shaders. On the other hand I was happy with the glow effect on the letters as it really made the text stand out. I noticed that paper has some subsurface scattering characteristics and wanted to get that effect but totally missed on the bump map for the paper. The Bible model was also not the best but at that moment I didn't have a better model of a book. My biggest complaint I always had with this image was that I did not have the means to get realistic caustic effects for the glass candle stick and flower base. There should have been a beautiful scattered light pattern on the table from the caustics but Carrara could not do it. The caustics control in Carrara is too simple and tends to work better with water or simple light effects. I wonder if the Iridescent shader from Shoestring shaders would have given me what I was looking for?
