Description
I don't post often, I'm just looking for some constructive criticism. The beast is mine, I picked up the trees somewhere on the net.

How about some drool. That would be really creepy!

Dude. I don't think you'll get an honest critique at Renderosity. Nobody gives constructive feedback here. That takes too much work. If you are on a quest to learn however, I would suggest you check out "The Illusion of Life" by Thomas Johnson and Ollie Johnson. This is holy scripture. In it, you'll find the ten commandments for bringing your imagination to reality. One of them is the concept of "silhouette." That is, how to stage a character such that it pops. I find your composition has three main areas of focus - the tree and the moon, while the main subject is lost in shadow. I admire when the artist obscures his work with light and dark, positive and negative. But I find this image hard to read. I'm very impressed with your modeling and fur treatment. I'd like to see it more clearly defined. I'd like to see a hint of some skin texture off his wet snout using a bump map you scanned from the backside of your hand, and I'd like to see a little more specular glint on the hair. Blah, blah, wolf, wolf. Sorry. I may have said too much already. Anyway, great work. Keep doing it and keep posting.
