It had been all they could do to not kill her. At every opportunity, Vulna had usurped Narcissa's command and done something to bring further grief and pain to the SGL. In the final battles to enter the Krell Vault deep beneath Maerymydra, she had summoned another true Succubus. The last one had brought a Balor down on them. Damien had had enough of her trouble and descended on the summoning, taking her head with a single divinely retributive blow. Narcissa yanked Vulna to one side following the battle and read her the riot act. She doubted it would do any good.

Back in the Courtyard of Lolth, after both teams returned with their magical treasures from their individual missions, Narcissa discovered they now had the means to eliminate their problem, once and for all. Within the Krell Vault, numerous fluxstone artifacts shed even more light on the mysterious prehistory of Arrallon. One of those items was a small stone looking much like a miniature carving of a human brain, pink, veined fluxstone, which identified as a Mindbender Stone. Apparently, it had the ability to effect a Krell level Mind Reprogram, but only once, then its magic was gone. Narcissa could think of no better use for it. Nor could any of the others. From the Drow vault beneath House Verthleth, the other team had recovered the Crux Ascencia, an ancient Atheaen artifact, a powerful symbol of the church, and the means to forgive any sin, if the priest doing so was true enough in his beliefs. Thus began a long line of buffing spells on Damien Steward, Demonhunter of Athena. Fallon leant him her faith. Dove and Meriadne focused the lines of probability around him and blessed his attempt.

The first object seemed to work, as it immediately turned pitch black and oily and sloughed to the ground, drained. Vulna collapsed in a pile on the floor, sobbing and weeping, in a near suicidal fit as the guilt of thousands of years of demonic lusts and soul rending tortures overcame her. Narcissa held her close and comforted her as Damien prepared the Crux. They didn't know what would happen next. As the legend of the Crux Ascencia went, any priest who attempted to forgive an unforgivable sinner and failed would be struck down by his God for such arrogant presumption. A moment later, the Shrine of Thoth was filled with the divine radiance of Olympus.
