Description

Here's a female Red-bellied Woodpecker that was perched just outside my window - in the morning sunlight. Wish I knew why there's always such a blur to my pictures :( I've tried everything. Except a tripod. Maybe that's what I'll use next time. I have a monopod, but .. no luck with that either. I know some of you have given me your advice; manual settings and focus I've tried ... just don't know what else to do. Maybe I'll give up on trying .. shoot flowers ... and rocks ... instead. And cloudy, blurry skies. ;) Hope you're all having a nice weekend. We went to Dani's hockey game this morning --- she got a 'hat trick' --- 3 goals in a row! And even 2 assisted shots. It was a fun game. We won, 9-1. :) Anyway, thanks for stopping by .. and for any comments you may decide to leave. I appreciate your honesty... and support. Very much.

So beautiful in light - maybe the blur comes from a de-adjustment of the camera or lens... Worth having it checked by a professional!

Very nice capture, I've notice when using my 300mm lense I tend to shake some days, I find using a tripod usually fixes the blurs Stuart

I have the same trouble with my camera and I use a tripod AND set the timer so I'm not even slightly jiggling it when I hit the shutter button. I'm convinced its something with the camera and hope to have it looked at in the next few months. This is still a gorgeous capture even with the "soft" focus.

I think Tripod is the answer especially in low light situation. But I love the capture you have here. Beautiful. Aloha

Lovely little bird. Looks like she misplaced her red spot though. :-)

I don't know either.. I suppose a failure of your cam is no option.. so in that case it has to be something else. My guess is you have to use a tripod when taking pictures of birds with this kind of focal length.. 300 mm. Without the blur the already beautiful picture would be magnificent.

I have a similar difficulty. Hmmm. Still, I love your shots. The one with the water came out so clear, and so maybe it has something to do with autofocus and slightly low light conditions.

Lovely shot this is... Umm about the blur it's probably due to the slow(ish) shutter speed.. the rule of thumb for a hand held shot is that you want your shutter speed to be the same or faster than your focal length... this means if you use a 300mm lens (like you did in this shot) you'd want at least a 1/300 sec exposure time or faster... This might not be possible in low light and is where you have to increase the ISO until it becomes possible and also keep the aperture as big as possible (small number) like you got with this shot ;) but yeah if you got a tripod you'd be able to use the settings you got there and just hope the bird doesn't move during the shot otherwise it could be a lill blury.... Hope that helps you... if you need any help feel free to ask and I'll try my best. other than that I think it looks like a wonderful shot great compo, colors with that classy dark background ;) Thanks for sharing. Hope you are keeping well there.

I think it's a very sweet capture, even if it's not sharp as a tack. I have the same problem handheld. Keep trying, :).
