Description

More of my real world work. I took moulds from original armour pieces and then made copies in Glass fibre. The metal effect is acheived by mixing fine metal powder into the gel coat and applying that into the mould first. Then this is reinforced with glass fibre matting. Then allowed to cure and then removed from the moulds. The object then has to be cleaned up amd polished. The surface has the same qualities as real metal, mainly because it os real metal. An iron finish would rust and a copper one wouyld become green over time. Mavros

Usually a suit of armour is handed, that is a right and left side.Lower arm pieces can be used on either side, Elbow and upper arms can as well. sme idea with legs. It gets tricky when the armour is customized, then its individual moulds. A lot of work no matter how you look at it. One criteria that is parampount is how the suoits will be used. if stationary, then pieces can be moulded as a one piece set up. If they ar eto be worn and used in combat then they have to be made liek the real thing and no short cuts. The obvious advantage in making armour in this way is teh weight saving. Real armour is heavy, breastlates being a quater of an inch thick or more. Hope that helps
