Description

My first image posted since arriving in Malaysia. This was taken at the Orchid park in Kuala Lumpur, all I could get from the man was that it was very old,and the name I could not pronounce, much less spell:D My shoddy Olympus 100 couldnt do it justice.IT is a very large flower, and far more vibrant, but I thought I would post to let my friends know I am amoung the mostly living(; Glad to be back.

It is a Bromeliad, often seen as a house plant where I live, although most certainly not native to here. Many times we see the foliage as a silvery grey-green, those varieties being known as "Silver Vase". My father had one that made 5 babies around it at once, all the same size, not a common thing for them to do when kept as house plants. The pink spike can last for several months, but each individual plant will only bloom once in its lifetime. They make babies after flowering. They belong to the same family as pineapples. And some people, like me, have allergic reactions to them when scratched by the leaves (they have sharp little knobby things along the edge). A lovely capture. :)))
