Well Meredith the idea with the art gallery list is fabulous! The only question is whether we would get a bigger attention like here at Rendo! I know I should not think like that! LOL

The major objections I get are. 1) Where is the real object that was photographed to make this? 2) Who really owns the design? 3) How much did it cost to make this one copy of the original. That is what I want to pay. I left the world of business in 1981. I'm fully capitalized. I've just found more folks will ask you for money than offer you money. That's America. I don't like to bother folks. I prefer a totally cyber solution. No greenbacks allowed.

O.k. let's get started and check out those 16 galleries, IAW, if you are posting on all these plus others, I will hardly find time to do any art of my own and difficulty not to reciprocate their comments. Tallpindo has got a point there, if you don't model and texture your own stuff, somebody will always want royalties for using their products, that's how it works in the music industry, from my personal experience. There are too many pro's and con's at present, I really have to do some more homework. Big effort on your part so far, I really appreciate what you are doing, thanx & ~Cheers~

hi Meredith, will check out sites and give feedback on what I find etc.. I totally agree with the exposure issue, if we all hit the galleries at once they mainstream will have to start taking the genre seriously.. the research into clientelle is a really big one, as you have to know what would sell and what wouldn't in any given situation.. well done for your part on the research so far .. I think it's a good idea if we actually use each others props etc then there's no problem if we have a communal web base for resources where everyone has membership, so that you know for what you are giving away you are recieving something in return and that nobody has a problem with the members using it, were keeping the lawyers out of the picture maybe an idea to consider? K

Those asking prices are outrageous on one of the sites, Meredith! Nevertheless, where there's a will, there's a long lost relative! lol Thank you for your time researching. Steve :o)

I really don't have that artist touch, let alone be good enough to sell anything. Thanks for your views though. Very interesting. Huggs...Silkylady...

Homework? I thought I was done with that. LOL One other possibility is wallpapers for cell phones. Not sure how big a business that is, but seems like it'd maybe have some potential. If I have time today around my teleworking I'll see if I can figure out if it's possible to do anything like that on your own.

I agree with you on exposure and all. You wrote a very good artical. Remember that showing on Renderosity is like Preaching to the choir. Location also changes prices. I was told my prices are too low from people in other states. My site is www.jodyraney.com thanks Jody

Ah to get the exposure that is indeed the rub :) I been trying to get a lot of exposure for my artwork on this site for over a year now and that has been the tricky part :) You have to know how to sell an idea and it looks like you covered all the bases here Meredith!!! I alway want to make more money than I have right now, but I guess I am happy with the friends I have right now :) I want to thank you so much for sharing this information with us. But then again this sounds like a fun idea, well worth exploring some time in the near future!!! Excellent idea Meredith and thank you for sharing!!! Hugsss Frankie ^_^

You've been doing a lot of work and research. However, I think that things aren't that easy. I'm not sure what art means. Mainly because everybody has a different idea of what art should be. Most of those sites you have listed are 'art' sites that contain no digital images. In fact, a lot of people (and I know a few of these) think that computer generated images are no art because 'all the work is done by the computer and everybody can do them' (sigh)... And first, we have to think would I buy this? Frankly I wouldn't buy most of the images I see on this site... and I'm not saying they are bad but I simply wouldn't buy a printed version of most of what we can see here. Probably I would spend money in a book collecting the best images of a few artists but these are just a few. I've encountered people who after leaving a comment on one of their images, have told me how much they like my gallery. However, they have never left a comment on any of my images. If they don't bother to leave a comment, I honestly don't think they will spend money to buy one of my images. The only way to make money out of 3D, apart from doing characters, props, textures, etc... is using the images to do a comic (and has to be a very good one, not only a pretty one), an illustration book (and just a few have images worth that) or getting in contact with people to use their images on mugs, T-shirts, notebooks covers, etc... Unfortunately most of us lack what should be the first premise for anyone who wants to make money out of their images and that is time... lots of time... I could do an image every week but I would be the first who wouldn't like them. If you want to make money from this you have to be doing images one after the other and obviously they have to have a bit of quality and that requires spending hours on the image. I hope I have not disappointed anybody but this is a step that can't be taken lightly...

great thinking mer. this bears major thought for all of us.since most of us do not technically own all of the ingredients in our collective works.there could be quite a bit of bickering , lawsuits etc.between artists and those of us who create what we put into our works regardless if we apply appropriate payments or recieve ok's from creators. i've sold a few of my early 2d paintings and found it fustrating and incredibly difficult to collect due payments on some of the commissions. resulting in lost time for creating newer works. which is something all of us cherish almost as much as "getting paid" please don't misunderstand me.i think all of us want to see our name in lights, maybe be the next rembrandt or davinci but it is along hard uphill struggle and a ton of luck to get to the top and stay there.. but you know i love the way you think mer. big hugs for doing what you do and being who you are.

You've got three problems to overcome. Apathy of the art buying public, apathy of the art galleries, and apathy of the yo-yo's here! This series should have 10,000 views and that many comments! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!

Exposure is the real key, Meredith. You "right name in the corner" is the main obstacle. If you can build enough name recognition you can sell anything as art. I was in Santa Fe a few weeks ago and there were many nice works but most of it was trash. But it all had big prices and people were obviously buying it or the galleries couldn't stay in business. I agree wtih RM426. Where are the rest of the folks at Renderosity? You're trying to get something good going here for everyone. Why aren't people responding? Keep trying to stir them up out of their apathy.
