Description
In 1956, unhappy with the Suez crisis, the French Secretary of Foreign Affairs asked the British government if the two countries - France and the UK - couldn't form a union (a bit like the UAR, the United Arab Republic, of Egypt and Syria in those days). The Brits said, Uh, uh. Then this secretary asked whether France could become part of the Commonwealth. Again the Brits nixed it. Too bad. Now I still have to go south to see the Eiffel Tower, and west for Westminster.
(This story was on the news recently. It is absolutely genuine.)

It was in the News recently on CNN and BBC World. There are behind the scene talks to combine France and England under the English Queen. But I think Flemings will be Dutch before England and France combine :)
