She wanted to go to college to study music, she had the voice of an angel. But, the recession hit, and her savings went into keeping the family home. She got a job to help the family, always promising herself that she'd get to college.... maybe next year. The next year became the next year, and after 15 next years, she knows she won't get away. She works in the same factory that supports the whole town. Just about everbody she knows works there. Last week, her boss bought a new car, she hopes hers will last a ittle bit longer so that she can buy a better, slightly less used one. Taxes, food, rent, everything goes up but not her wages. She works from 7 in the morning to 6 at night. Hey, the overtime helps. Now, there's this rumour that they're going to shut the factory down and move production overseas where workers are paid in pennies, not in dollars. She never got married because she didn't want to get tied down from going away. Saturday nights, she and her girlfriends get together, go for pizza, and then hit the bar. Her favorite has a karaoke machine. She still has that voice of an angel. One of the local bands wants her to sing with them.... she might, she says. Sunday is church in the morning, the sermons always sound the same, and then in the afternoon, a trip to Wallyworld to just wander and shop. She learned to be content. But someday, she's going to take her money and go.... maybe to college, maybe just somewhere else, somewhere she's only read about. Someday.
