Description

Breedon Priory, Breedon, Derbyshire near sunset today. Built on top of a cliff at the highest point in the area, with commanding views in all directions. Formal name is "The Priory Church of St. Mary and St. Hardulph". It was founded as a monastery around 676AD on the site of an Iron Age hill fort, then refounded as an Augustinian Priory in the early 12th Century. Sunday service at 9.45am if you are interested!!!! As usual, you need to zoom in to get the best view... Many thanks for looking & any comments. ~Steve~ Canon 5D, 17-40L @17mm F10, 1/100s ISO 400. Thank you for your fantastic comments on yesterdays post. In answer to questions yes that is a white cross halfway up the hill - it marks the scene of one of the earliest recorded walking accidents in the Lake District:-

A very difficult exposure handled as well as you could. I would like to see a little more detail in the shadows...Photoshop ?? but still a wonderful image.

The more I see your work, and the more I'm convinced you live with it... I mean you "earn" your life with it... Well, anyway you should. ;) Wonderful, as always !!

Great mood Steve from the fairly modern slate headstones the Church seems to have been in use for Centuries...Hidden away up in those hills may have saved it from the reformation..
