Description

Justice, or a condition thereof, is a philosophical concept attempting to describe an ideal state of humanity: a morally-correct state of things and people. Whether this ideal is attainable, or perhaps desirable, is an open question. According many theories of justice, it is overwhelmingly important. For instance, John Rawls claims that "Justice is the first virtue of social institutions, as truth is of systems of thought."[1] Some theories argue that in the current state of the world, justice is already supreme. [Thomas Nagel], for instance, writes, "We live in a justice world."[2] Historically, most societies have professed that justice is desirable, and many social and political movements are centred on the premise of global justice. However, a precise philosophical account of justice has been notoriously hard to come by. For philosophers who see justice as paramount, they are in the difficult position of being unable to clearly and distinctly distinguish justice from injustice in characters, institutions, actions, or the world as a whole. Additionally, it is unclear whether justice consists in all, some, or any of these categories. This problem of uncertainty about fundamentals has inspired philosophical reflection about justice, as about other topics. What exactly justice is, and what it demands of individuals and societies, are among the oldest and most contested of philosophical questions. For example, the proper distribution of wealth in society

Your images are always excellent. Your words are always thought provoking. Thank you. But, there is no justice here. We play on computers while people starve, we create art instead of homes for the homeless. We are human and not capable of perfection. Justice will never exist on this earth, until, well,... you know. The only real justice lies in the hands of God. The cool thing about that, is we can choose to avoid judgement, or we can set ourselves up for judgement. Since we are not perfect that will go badly for us. I choose to avoid judgement by simply accepting the fact that one went before me and paid my debt. I'm sure I'll get flamed for my beliefs. But that won't stop me. :)

Lovely image and well said, it seems like everyone agrees that just outcomes should be reached, but there's no consensus on how to get there. More often unfortunately, he is sovereign who decides over the state of exception, laws themselves are limited by the enforcement power devoted to back them up, the victors write the history books and might makes right. Hell, the common law legal system we use today still has some hangovers in form and function from the days of trail by ordeal! Sorry for the rant, couldn't help it.

Outstanding work, goes well with you essay. I think justice to one is different than justice might be to another. Who knows, people are so complicated and so diverse that these will never have firm answers, but they're interesting to discuss and theorize on. Don't mind me, I don't know a thing about anything, thinking out loud.LOL Awesome work! Hugs Maria
