Description

The people left behind at home go through many hardships. Young children spend years missing a parent who they never when or if they are coming home. My heart and prayers go out to those families and I hope that this war ends soon so that they are reunited.

Does the hunt for oil deserve such sacrifice, and how a great democracy does allow itself to invade other people countries?

Agun, Well said. I know mine missed me on my 20 months in Iraq. Home now, I'll see her graduate High school in May 2007 Bachir213-- As long as we're tied to fossil fuels, economically/technologically, the thirst for oil will not be quenched by any Nation. India & China's needs are now exploding, yet they have not signed nor were included in the lofty-headed Kyoto Treaty of '99. As for "how does a great democracy allow itself to invade other nations", it called "declaring war" on those who've attacked, or threaten/ threatened our citizens, our interests or our fellow democratic /Strategic allies. Granted its not the preferred method of dealing with troublemakers, terrorists, and rogue states, but it does send a message to the wannabes that United we stand, divided we fall. Its the division now perceived and carried by some in power, and their henchmen the lap-dog mass media that somehow defending yourself, and taking the fight to your enemies is wrong, instead of getting bushwhacked here at home or every time you go abroad on peaceful business, vacation, or everyday commuting to work. I hear all sorts of mass media saying we did this, we did that, but I hear very little of beheadings, butchering whole families, and torture done to our soldiers, and our allies that somehow the enemy has the RIGHT to do these things, that the enemy's cause, because of their faith makes it holier than ours, or somehow more noble. Bachir213, their cause is neither. They no better than the Nazi's our great democracy faced six-seven decades ago. You cannot buy them off like Danegeld, for they will return. A Bully with a holy book and a gun is still a bully--do as I say, or my men will kill you is not a new concept, but one that must be opposed, and run to earth like the mad dogs they are, and put out of the rest of the world's misery. Because of this great nation's diversity and wealth which others covet, we can conduct a war, and provide humanitarian relief as well (Katrina/ Pakistan's Earthquake/ The Tsunami). America helps others far more than it hurts. I for one am glad we no longer turn the other cheek when our citizens are killed by these folks, but an active worldwide hunt for them and their kind exists, and continues so that you and I have the peace and quiet to discuss this as civilized human beings, not raving zealots ready to kill for a greater seat in the afterlife of our Creator. SSG D. W. Hammersley US Army Infantry, Veteran, Husband, writer,& a Father of three who will inherit the future we leave them.

A beautiful tribute...beautiful. Such sacrifice so that I can ejoy these freedoms that I do is never taken for granted by me. I wake up in Texas every morning...I drive a car to work without the threats of IED's. I excercise my right to vote everytime not so much because I can, but because I have been given that right/privledge to do so. I thank those whom have served and are serving today! I fly the American Flag during the day, and cerimoniously take it down every evening. I am an American, and I am proud of who I am! Thank you to Hammersley for your service to our country, and thanks for being on the front line so that I and my family can sleep in peace every night.

This is a very touching tribute Ace. I am also from a Military background and would always sense the unease in the house, when my Father was in the Far East and would be away for days at a time in Singapore, during the communist terrorist uprising in 1957. Excellent Sir!
