I'm beginning to understand how short wheelbase figure out in the gasser wars. As the tires past 1957 got grip beyond a coefficient of friction of 1 they began to have definite limits on time of effort. There was only boost and no boost-sustain as with synthetic rubber rocket motors. So if your car was heavy and took a long traction split into several gear applications you got only brief maximums that held as wrinkle walls and the rolling thunder built. A dragster or altered with it's long wheelbase would not wheelie as easily and it had two speeds at first getting the squirt of juice exactly within the life of the contact patch. It wasn't just adhesion like glue on a newly formulated soft smooth asphalt. Time mattered.
