Description

I think that crocodiles are quite fascinating animals and the more that people know about them, the better they can understand them. Hopefully by understanding them, people may develop an appreciation of crocodiles which in turn may lead to some rational decisions being made about their long-term conservation and management here in Australia. Crocodilians are the worlds largest and perhaps most exciting reptiles. They are also great survivors and their prehistoric ancestors, the Archosaurs, date back over 240 million years to the Triassic period. They have survived major upheavals such as the break up of the continents and the ice ages. They have witnessed the rise and fall of the dinosaurs and have seen the evolution of mammals and birds. Since man colonised the world, no species of crocodile has become extinct; however 17 out of the 23 species of crocodilians around the world are endangered. Thank for your comments, Stuart

Nice and shiny one! Just out of the water. Well - they are interesting, no doubt. But for 99% of all time they are as exciting as a rock. Just that 1 % of times - they are as exciting as a rock, that is coming towards you in form of an avalanche... :)

I have great appreciation for crocodiles. I just would have to have a really high powered lens to take a photo of one. That way they could be way over there and I can be way over hear. :)

I agree totally with Squid...I don't want to be lunch....but they are very impressive animals and although we hear more horror stories than others I am sure they are here because of some purpose. Excellent capture...
