Description

Before the Physics Departments began "salting the mine" with Nobel Laureates who had learned their craft elsewhere and used the "gold dust" method of fellows who occasionally actually sat in seminars with these learned men, they used fellows who sat in seminars with the chairman of the department and transfer students from other schools specifically picked for graduate school. The bulk of the students in undergraduate studies were premed and prenursing and engineering who had schedule conflicts. This mercenary approach kept the classrooms full. Eventually they began a series of public lectures by visiting Nobel laureates because their own had returned to their own alma maters as visiting professors or were on sabbatical. Some would call the period when I studied, "The Great Pause."

Dear Dale, It was my experience that in most cases the more vaulted the creditials the crummier the teaching skills. I took a chemistry class from such a person that knew nothing about teacher and even less about English. Had I not dissected the textbook, I'd still bethere trying to pass it. The green point brings back a memory of one prof that used a green laser pointer - the rest if they used them, all had red. Love ya!!! Meredith Meredith Elaine Wilson - MeredithLand
