Got wordy there, didn't I? Ran out of space. Note on the starfield: Ive been using a two-layer field two infinite planes the brighter stars in the first layer are from a simple image of white dots on a black background on with PaintShop Pro, the second smaller plane is a procedural material I did with white, orange and blue stars. For this image, I added some more layers to emulate the Milky Way. I set my background layer to 50% transparency, then copied it and converted it to a cylinder that I squashed into an ellipse. I put that behind the background to simulate the galactic bulge, modifying the material to yield a smaller and denser star field. I added a transparency to give it a jagged look to simulate dark nebulae. Then I copied that ellipse, set it just in front of the previous one and squashed it some more to simulate the edge-on spiral arms. Finally, a second copied ellipse, set just in from of the narrow ellipse, simulated visible nebulae. Here, I reversed and tweaked transparency material and applied some yellow orange and red coloring to the result, set it to a low transparent level and dimmed it to about 15% diffusion and ambience and there you go. Helps to crank up the resolution to full size to see the detail, and unfortunately the detail also adds a lot to the size of the .jpg.

Absolutely a splendid scene...bravo!V:DDD.Hugsxx

I didn't know you could make comments that long..;) Hey, actual combat in space (aside from the explosions..;) would be a pretty dull-looking affair..;) great pic.

interesting.

Ya can never read enough Weber or Ringo or or or

It's a good picture, but I think I actually enjoyed the commentary and the "Weberesque technodump" even more.
