Description
The origin of the Minotaur Guards' bizarre headgear is obscure, although it dates back at least as far as planetary year 1247 PF (post-foundation), which seems to be when the nickname of "Minotaurs" was first attached to female members of the Presidential Guard. Back then, the male guards also wore a curious, winged mask-style headpiece, which earned the nickname "Viking", but that never caught the public imagination to the same extent as the Minotaur mask.
After the planet's armed forces became all-female, in 2111 PF, "Minotaur Guards" became the regiment's official title and it seems that the horned mask has grown ever more spectacularly strange since then. For off-planet operations, the women resort to more conventional visors, but, otherwise, they show no inclination to ditch their Minotaur image.

Maybe the helmet was designed to strike fear into the minds of their enemies. One thing for sure, they are colorful and deadly.
