Description


Germany laid down the keels of two aircraft carriers in 1936,to be named Graf Zeppelin and Peter Strasser respectively.Work on the Peter Strasser was stopped in 1939.After a great deal of political wheeling and dealing work on the Graf Zeppelin was stopped in 1940.The vessel was towed into the Baltic, was eventually captured by the Russians and after being used for target practice was sunk.The wreck was located by divers in 2006.

And the allies have to thank that idiot, drug adict, alcholic fool Goering for the non-existance of the those carriers :)) Congrats on these two unsuall aircraft!

the top one looks quite nifty. Compare with our Swordfish - though it (and an aircraft carrier) effectively clobbered the Bismark. Strange how the worth of carriers changed during World War II and continues to this day. The aftermath of Pearl Harbour might also have been different if the US carriers hadn't been away at sea. Japan might just have consolidated its position.
