Description
The Confederate States salvaged the frigate Merrimack and de-masted and steel plated her. She was renamed the CSS Virginia. Here she heads out for sea trials of Hampton Roads, VA.
The Virginia fought the Monitor to a draw in 1862 and later that year both vessels were sunk: the Monitor floundered at sea and was lost and the Virginia was scuttled to avoid capture by the Northern forces.

Great atmosphere here - you can almost feel the cold wind blowing across the water and imagine the crew shivering beneath the armour plate, the cold sea only inches from their feet! Incredible realism here!
