Description

Hi, it's been a little while, hasn't it? Well, I'm back. I took a little time out due to modelling overload and banging my head against the 3D wall (which makes it virtual haha). Okay, progress report: * I redid the middle (diagonal) section of the intakes at the sides of the bridge. Personally, I can't believe that they're intakes as it's a deep space research vessel and probably not capable of sub-orbital flight, so intake what? Oh well, they really make the ship's haunting style. * Then I deleted the wing-section I had started after looking at the DVD caps I'd made. The wings (if wings they be?) are short and stubby. Mine were to long and flat. * I've more or less completed the gravity drive section, which unfortunately is hard to see in this picture (I was going for the feel of the movie with this render). * I spent a load of time playing around with photometric lights, which are the lights you see all over the ship (mainly point lights, except the area ones used to illuminate the central corridor. The next job will be the part that connects the wings to the corridor and grav drive. That's gonna be a toughy! Thanks to all of you who posted comments and useful tips and to all those who messaged me. Top people!

I totally agree with you LilAwen. I love the way they used columns and tiled them like a an old Victorian public toilet or something; but the answer to your question is no. I'm having a ball modelling the ship, but have no ambition to do the interiors for two reasons: 1) I very much doubt they'd match the actual ship, and 2) Only a few interior rooms are shown in the film and I don't know where all of them are (medical for example). Oh, and 3) Someone else did an absolutely stunning render on the interior of the gravity drive room. I'd like to have modelled the most detailed ship, but couldn't top that interior. Sorry, I don't know who did them. I do have them archived on my PC, but they don't have a name on them. Shame, otherwise I'd link to them.

I always thought the ship's and effects in that movie were fantastic. Awesome model, tons of details. You really brought out how the bow of the ship kind of seems like a menacing hideous face. :D

Thank you, PsychoNaut. I did actually remodel the bridge section at least 5 times, because I really wanted to capture that.
