Description
An expiriment of sorts for my current (as in having deleted some of craptacular images) 100th pic. I had some other things in mind to do recently, but the idea to do this instead ran through my sprained mind for a while and I decided to not ignore the muses this time.
Now, I don't know much about photography, but I do know that there's a differece between shooting in B&W and shooting in color. And if my basic understanding is right, you may not get the same results when you take the color photo and turn it into a B&W pic.
So, that's what I set out to (try to) recreate with Poser. What you see is an untouched Firefly render, saved as a 100% quality JPEG from the original BMP. A color count of the original says it has 1392 unique colors (1710 for the JPEG), but looking at it up real close, I don't see anything that looks to be a color other than what you'd get in a greyscale image. Maybe the colors are really close and hard to tell apart, maybe it's the fact that I'm without my glasses (a week so far), maybe it is really a B&W pic and my lack of experience/knowledge is getting in the way.
Now, since this was an expiriment, I did make a color render as well to use as a control. When converted to greyscale, it looked pretty good, but I thought that the straight B&W render looked better. When the converted pic was laid on top, then set to difference, it was easier to see just how different it turned out.
To further see how close I came, I converted the B&W render to greyscale, pasted it as a new layer and looked at the difference, which seemed quite minimal. Then, merging the layers and enhancing the contrast showed difference on the left side of her jaw and neck, a bit on her left shoulder and her nose.
All things considered, I'm rather pleased with the end results. I hope you like it. It turned out much better than I had hoped for and I'm working on doing the same for a couple other figures, just to see what I can get.
Out of curiosity, is there a utility available that will tell/show me what colors are used, rather than just telling me how many there are?

Very beautiful - amazing sharpness in there, perhaps a larger color range on her neck and shoulder could've improved it further, but it's rather an impressive render! :) Not to mention all that info that coudl always turn out useful - who might know? Perhaps i'll turn to B/W for a try... ;) I don't know of any utility that does color counting on a rgb image, although it shouldn't be a difficult task - main problem would not be counting them, but rather presenting them to the user, since an average pic could contain thousands and thousands of colors... :) ... i'll let you know if i can find/make something suitable tho...

It doesn't have that flat feel that you at times get with black and whites. Maybe that is where the color is hiding out? Amazing render anyway...
