Not to be picky but why is fire still coming out of it on the ground? Did you see this in the film? Wasn't it dropped from a mother ship and the rocket burned out in the acceleration to supersonic flight. It landed dead stick. Even residual gasses would long before have purged. But if you saw it in the moive it's OK. I understand.

Note to Tallpindo: Yes it's in the film. It is in the opening sequences, only it is closer to noon rather than the morning. Actor Sam Shepard rides up on horseback viewing the X1 with flames jutting out of its rocket nozzle. The film was actually a bad representation of the real facts of America's space race. I could site many examples of its inequities, but I still liked the imagery of the movie and remember it most.

Funny you should post this image: I WORK at Edwards Air Force Base, California, as a Civilian Graphics Artist, where the X1 was tested in the late 40s. There were times that the plane's rockets were tested on the ground. I have seen photos of it in the historical archives in the History/Graphics office where I work here on the base. There are still areas on the base I drive past everyday that are where ALL of the U.S. aircraft/spacecraft have been tested; bunkers, the original ramps where the X1's were dropped down below the B29s so they could be loaded under the bombers, the hill where the rocket motors were/still are tested, etc. There are even examples of the aircraft/spacecraft salted all over the base, including a boneyard with old test vehicles rusting away...So, yes, this image IS plausible, I even like the fact you have included Joshua Trees in the background!

Now this Looks Like you did this work in Softimage XSI 5.11. Rendering is that good. Mental ray, Vray, Maxwell Render, all render real fast. It's Just how I ajust the setting and pray alot. I am still Learning How to use all three Renderers.
