Description
This bridge is not only one of a few survivors of
its type (Camelback Truss), nor is it only on the national Register of Historic Places but really represents a grass-roots campaign in Allegany County, NY to stop them from placing a nuclear waste dump out here in pristine country. The bridge was blocked by volunteers handcuffed together in order to stop the New York State siting commission. And we won! No dump! This is a much unheralded landmark of true democracy in action, when an entire county comes together.
