Description

I have been diligently working on illustrations for my book. This pic started off in Terragen. Getting the effects I want has been an interesting experience using ZenLiner 2 and a multitude of other filters, blending and mixing... Until in the end I come up with something like this. The book is nearly ready. I just have a few more illustrations to add and then it goes off for proof reading. I have taken on board constructive criticism and have (I think) improved the smoke.

Astonishing what can be achieved in greys, isn't it! It looks like an erupting volcano. Building on this assumption: I like the glass-like shine of the lava, although I would expect it to look otherwise (flow with hot spots) during an eruption. I like the texture of the mountain (rather 19th century illustration style, in contrast with the lava). I like the light, but I wonder where it could come from. Comment to the original picture: I like the shape on top of the volcano, but it looks more like a molten plant or mushroom than a cloud of ejected particles and gases to me. Comment to the revised picture: Great smoke and particles!
