Description

Quinlan III is an earth-sized planet that was terraformed from a dry cold planet into a warm, far wetter one. Ratdragons, brought by the first settlers from Severis IV, were bred into larger sizes and for pack hunting. The local game is very fast, but the ratdragons are quicker. The hunter has no weapons; the ratdragons chase down, corner, then surround their quarry and kill it. Their temperment is very similar to that of a large terrier. Probably not the nicest way to hunt, but certainly effective, which is what the settlers desire. I probably should have given the "hunter" a large pouch or harness for carrying back the kill. This picture has sat around for almost two years, because I could never get the grasses to look right using alpha planes. Since then, I've discovered Plop Render, so I went ahead and used actual vegetation props--over and over and over and.... Grin. Still not sure if I like the POV; it might have been better if I had lowered the camera more. In the original, the sun was higher, which made the foreground terrain texture blend almost perfectly with the background colors, but it blanked out the girl's features in shadow, so I lowered the sun. A compromise that darkened the foreground colors. I guess art, like life, envolves a lot of compromises to get some sort of optimum result. Thanks for dropping by and taking a look. I like the POV. Also like the story and ratdragons :) Plop render is one of the reasons I usually render on screen instead of 'render to disc'. You can do so much with it.

Intriguing scene, never seen a ratdragon before. Love the greens and the shadows are awesome. Sweet render for sure!

The POV is interesting, I like it. The image is very sharp, which I think is very adequate for this scene (joy, freedom). The only thing a bit strange, better visible in full-size, is an apparent error of postwork or maybe some "lost" alpha-plane, I don't know: in the background, not far from the right border, in the 1st tree on the right after the green area with no vegetation, there's a sudden change in texture. Sorry, hard to explain... There are two more similar problems in the sky, one on the center and one on the right.
