First off, I would just like to say how overjoyed I am that I decided to take requests with this series, because lemme tell you - making this image was quite a treat. And it was the very first request I got.
You know, I never really stopped to think about gold before. I like red...and black...and green, you know, darker colours. Gold isn't my thing (besides, gold jewelry makes my skin itch after a time).
I was going to make this piece really bright and bold, because to me, that's what gold was. You know? An ever-glowing, sunny, brilliant, in-your-face colour. But as I was making that image, it just didn't seem right. So it came to me to look at all of the angles of that colour. Other than a bright, cheery colour - what IS gold? And, do you know what I came up with? One word:
Beautiful.
And when I think of beautiful, I think of the subtle kind. Gentle in it's loveliness. And that's how this image came about.
At first, I was going to use a female with harsher features. But that didn't fit when the concept hit me, so I made her Asian in her facial structure to give her that gentility.
I took close attention to her expression in this piece. I wanted it just right...she knows she's beautiful, but with beauty comes elegance, and she's not being too overt about it. Her lips have a gentle smile playing over the corners of them, a sign of confidence but not vanity.
The goal behind her expression, her pose, the colours and mood of this piece is to make it seem as though she's saying, "Yes, I'm beautiful. But I also have class enough not to flaunt it."
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to OOh Betty for the inspiration, it was an absolute delight working on this piece. I think this is one of the favourites I've worked on, just from a creation standpoint. Hope you enjoy it! :)
I'm still taking requests, if anyone wants them done. Here are the colours done so far (though not all of them are posted yet):
---Blue:
Fear
---Gold: Beauty
---Green: Jealousy
---Brown: Comfort
---Purple: Grief
Of course, if you have a colour that is listed above that YOU connect with a different emotion than what is listed, tell me. I'm interested in any opinions.
Contact me by leaving a comment or sending me a note, I'd enjoy hearing about what you'd like to see. This is getting interesting, I love it!
Thanks for viewing, comments welcome as always.

How beautiful is this? Very impressive portrait! I remember a portrait I saw in a magazine years ago, quite the same close up, likewise hair floating from left shoulder, even a similar expression. I never forgot this shot but it wasn'r gold of course and I think that is what makes this here so special! The subtle beauty of gold you describe, really is in the image! Amazing!

I think theprojectionist had the perfect word... sultry. She is exotic yet as refined as molten gold. Gold has to be purified by fire and I can see that experience in her eyes. Exotic, beautiful, sultry, confident but kind... even erotic. Brilliant image!
